The hostel Madama Hostel was my kind of place. One, I’m not in the same age as the other backpackers. But in this hostal you’re just so very welcomed and included by the super friendly staff. And in the huge shared rooms with six bunk beds, one immediately gets welcomed into conversations. Just like when I was travelling up to the age of 25. I guess it’s also easier, since on isn’t in eachothers face since the rooms are so grand. One is kind of granted ones own space, even thgough we’re sharing.
My stay at Madama Hostel was my most expensive hostal lodging on this summers interrailing. Sooooo worth it, I absolutely loved the place. Everything from the friendly staff, the rustic and artsy feel of the place, the organic breakfast that was included, the common table for the travellers in the restaurant that was mostly frequented my the locals. The atmosphere is excellent.

If you play the game…
You just got to take what comes with it. That’s my general attitude to travelling. I’ve made many trips solo since I was 17. My first, and up until now only interrail travelling I also did solo when I was 18. With the difference that travelling solo didn’t at all mean being alone, just having the full responsibility by oneself.
I don’t know what happened that made me so introverted as a traveller efter I turned 30’ish.
Than it makes the world of difference being this welcomed by the staff in the reception. It took tops 8 minutes in the 6-bed dorm until it was “our” room. I’ve got to give americans major cred for being so socially skilled!!
After 6 minutes in the room I was already offered to join another guy going to the Prada Foundation a contemporaty art museum kind of just around the corner from the hostel.

Madama Hostel is combined with a bistro. And it seems very popular, cause it’s pretty much full every night I’m staying. They are clearly joined. Since it’s popular for many more people that the hostel guests, there is a nice communal table that’s only for ut guests. Perfect for more shy travellers like myself.
I immediately found company. My favorites are young and english Bradley and the very milanese Davide who lives in the hoods. Bradley refers to me as the older when trying to use my smart phone, clearly much smarter than I -the phone-. Adorable Davide filled up my book of with exciting things to see in Milan as well as places to go in Italy. I love this kind of travelling.
All of Davids recommendations didn’t really suit me, but some were peeerfect for me.
No food waste
This is how neat and fresh the breakfast, which is included in the price, is at Madama. The place has an eco feel, and you fill in what you want for breakfast on a small coupon, and it comes out on a small plate like this💪. No food waste, and thank you for that.
The pizzas at… MaMa it
Oh my, this little “almost” hole in the wall Pizza parlour down the street from Madama Hostal. I don’t neccessarily eat pizzas for lunch and dinner every day. But this one is the best one by far, on my entire trip. And one of the top 10 in my life. That being said, I’m no pizza connaiseur. But I remember the absolute best ones💪. The staff is so very sweet, as a bonus❤️
