Breakfast on, and by the road
One of my favourite things at home (not everyday, but regularly) after my everyday morning excercise is treating myself to breakfast in cafés. And since I bicycle everywhere, I for sure can indulge in this treat EVERYDAY while travelling. To sit down with the oat latte and suck in the atmosphere, even though it in this case includes plenty of… noice from traffic.
So here I am at Fechtner delikatessen at Torstrasse 14.
Creative Berlin
Found this great guide to the museums and galleries in Berlin. Atlas Obscura offered more than I could handle during four days in town. I’d say it offers enough to cover a full week actually. I guess one need some experience with all kind of guiding, cause they might not be corresponding to reality.
The great thing though with this listing is that it gives you an amazing variety, as well as that you get to explore the city while going to the places you picked from the listings. You already know I prefer the mobility of a bicycle. But using public transport is also REALLY exploring since you get to hang out with the people that live and work in the place you visit. And THAT is equally intresting to me.
Alles über Anne / All about Anne
Firstly I went to Haus Schwarzenberg Street Art Alley på Rosenthaler Strasse 39. I adored this place. I don’t know if that is about me, the place or both. I’m convinced that if I’d come back to this place everytime I vistit Berlin, it would be equally intresting, cause it gives a most dynamic feel.
In the corner of this little back yard you’ll also find the permanent exhibition All about Anne. About Anne Franks life. Don’t miss out. I wish everyone could visit. It’s so touching, and we all need to be touched by how a systematically persecution can start och escalate into the most horrific disaster.
KW Berlin
Kunst Werke Berlin, cool building, and a lovely inner yard with a most welcoming summer café, Cafe Bravo. While I was here there was a biennal. I’m not easy to impress, and I dont know where the key to my WOW-cabinet is. I’d say this was a dissapointment. A few intresting pieces for the 18 euro. But if it’s anything thet deserves support, it’s the Arts. And I especially like to contribute to the Contemporary Art.
Street art
What if we SAW it, and appreciated it in our everyday life. There are so many intresting pieces at home in Malmö, but not that common in Stockholm. Or I’m just blind while being at home(s).
I find it very refreshing with all the creativity on the facades here in Berlin. Like art very present in your everyday life. Travelling isn’t my everyday life though.
This one by Wanda Stang is absolutely gorgeous.
East Side Gallery & Well…
I had already left Berlin when In realised i HAD found that open air gallery East side gallery along the river Spree that I thought I couldn’t find when I was looking for it. I hate so sound like a grumpy old lady, but the tags on the backside of the wall was more intresting than the “art” on the front. Yes, I now, everything is art. Some’s shitty though, and it’s 100% ok being a shitty artist. Better being creative and having dreams than not❤️
Tegel Sud & learning by doing
During my days in Berlin, there was an unexpected heat wave, 32-35°. I happen to really like warm weather, but not… the climate change. In the suburb Tegel Süd, located quite a bit outside of Berlin there is an open air museum on the facades of some of the very tall buildings.
Bring water if it’s warm. Regardless of the distance you’re planning to go. I didn’t. Not only did I not carry water, it was sunday… In Germany sundays seem to have a close down holiness over them that we abolished a very long time ago in Sweden. I’m not saying it’s bad, I just didn’t think of it being a possibility that a country that has pretty much the same standard like we do, closing down it’s capital .
Once there… well worth it! On the map, aim for Neheimer strasse.
Always Refuel with Water
And coke. You do need your electrolytes bicycling in 35°.
